Development Committee Strategy

CHS Mission:

To enhance lives and strengthen communities by providing opportunities to develop individual potential and by delivering comprehensive services that maximize the health and well-being of those it serves in South Oakland and the greater Pittsburgh area.


Development Committee Purpose:

To raise funds for targeted needs through investment and stewardship activities engaging board, staff, residents, the external community and funders.


Goals of the Development Committee:

1. Organize and create fund-raising activities to meet established needs.
2. Coordinate events and activities and ensure balance and communication.
3. Identify, approach and engage community resources to meet targeted needs.
4. Build a culture of giving and stewardship to achieve targeted needs.
5. Ensure a high standard of ethics and accountability.


Development Committee Member Role:

1. Attend meetings as possible.
2. Communicate ideas.
3. Provide connections to resources.
4. Be a spokesperson for CHS.
5. Assist as time permits.
6. Provide oversight and insights.


Development Director Role:

1. Provide advance communication about meetings and activities.
2. Maintain a calendar of events for members to access.
3. Engage members in fundraising opportunities and needs.
4. Promote leadership roles and opportunities for all members.
5. Provide detailed financial and summary reports on fundraising activities.
6. Actively process feedback and evaluation among group members.
7. Seek out advice, direction and supervision from CHS’s Executive Director.
8. Ensure a high standard of ethics, communication, and accountability.
9. Report financial information to the CHS financial department.
